    Shut Down

    Written by: Brian Wilson/Roger Christian
    Produced by: Nik Venet
    Recording date: January 31, 1963
    Take Number:
    Master Number: 39180
    Time: 1:50
    Lead Vocal by: Mike
    Originally appeared on: Surfin' U.S.A.
Subsequently appeared on: Shut Down (Capitol Records various artists album of hot rod songs); Little Deuce Coupe; Endless Summer; Good Vibrations box set; 20 Good Vibrations

    Notes:
First collaboration between Brian and KFWB dj (and hot rod enthusiast), the late Roger Christian.

Continued the formula of the "Surfin Safari"/"409" single with the surf song on side "A" and the car song on side "B".

Exciting track, energetic vocals from Mike and the Boys and a spritited guitar solo from Carl make this my personal favorite BB car song.

Mike Love plays saxophone on this track.

    Noises:
0:16 Double tracking mistake, lead vocal on left says "revvin' up THEIR engines"; on right says "revvin' up OUR engines"
1:08-1:11 Double tracking of lead vocal off more than usual
      1:46 Someone say "whoops."

    Single:

    Capitol 4932
    B-side with: Surfin' U.S.A.
    Released on: 3/4/63
    Charted on: 4/27/63
    Reached: 23
