Domenic Priore says "the original version of this song, recorded by the Gambleres in 1959, is considered to be the very first surf record."

The Beach Boys were the first group to cover this song, it was later covered by the Venturis, the Surfaris, and the Challengers.

Track has one of the Beach Boys (presumably) barking like a dog. The predacessor to the canine coda which closes "Pet Sounds."
